Privacy Policy for FocusLens: AI Productivity Filter for YouTube

1. Overview

FocusLens ("the Extension") is an AI-powered productivity filter for YouTube. It helps users filter distracting video cards and Shorts while browsing YouTube.

FocusLens is designed with privacy in mind. The Extension processes video-title information locally on the user's device and does not collect, sell, or share personal user data.

2. Information Collection and Storage

FocusLens does not collect personal information such as names, email addresses, account credentials, or personal identifiers.

• Local storage: FocusLens uses chrome.storage.local to store the user's filter preferences and locally cached embeddings of YouTube video titles.
• Embedding cache: Embeddings generated from video titles are cached locally so that the same titles do not need to be processed repeatedly. This improves performance and reduces redundant local computation.
• Local AI processing: Embedding generation and content classification are performed locally in the browser using the Extension's bundled WebAssembly resources.

3. YouTube Page Access

FocusLens runs on YouTube pages in order to identify video cards and Shorts and apply the user's configured filtering behavior. This access is required for the core functionality of the Extension.

FocusLens does not use YouTube page access to collect or transmit personal browsing information to external services.

4. Data Sharing and External Servers

• No external data processing: FocusLens does not send video titles, embeddings, or browsing data to external servers for processing.
• No tracking or analytics: FocusLens does not collect analytics, telemetry, or tracking information.
• No sale or sharing of data: FocusLens does not sell, rent, or share user data with third parties.

5. Extension Permissions

FocusLens requests the minimum permission required for its functionality:

• storage: Used to save filter preferences and locally cached video-title embeddings on the user's device.

The Extension also declares YouTube pages as content-script match patterns (https://*.youtube.com/*) so that FocusLens can perform its filtering functionality directly on YouTube.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Filter preferences and cached embeddings remain in the Extension's local storage until they are removed by the Extension, cleared by the user, or the Extension is removed from the browser.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
